Purpose/mission
The mission of the Ladies Guild is to promote the holiness of its members, foster authentic Eastern Christian Spirituality through study lectures and programs, assist the pastor in caring for the needs of the church, and encourage Guild members to establish a sense of community. The work that is continually being performed by the members of the Guild is essential to the welfare of our church as well as to our own spiritual growth.
The Ladies Guild has graciously given support to our Pastor from the very beginning. They generously volunteer their time to plan and execute the following activities:
• Attend to the charitable needs of the church and to the Melkite community at large
• Visit the sick
• Arrange retreats and days of recollection for women and parishioners to enhance their knowledge of God, His saints, and the Orthodox Christian life
• Perform a major annual fundraiser by baking and selling homemade Arabic Sweets at Christmastime
• Cook for social events and fundraisers, such as the Archbishop's Luncheon, and the Middle Eastern Food Festival
• Decorate the church in honor of feast days
• Offer hospitality to the entire parish on Sundays after Liturgy in the form of a Coffee Hour
• Help the bereaved families in the parish by preparing and serving the Mercy Meal
• Invite guest speakers to lecture or provide demonstrations to educate our women (and sometimes the men) on health and/or spiritual issues
• Encourage fellowship and spiritual growth among our women through our Book Club
ON-GOING CHARITIBLE PROJECTS
The Ladies Guild gives on-going financial support to these additional charitable programs:
• Needy children in the Holy Land
• The Little Sisters of the Poor
• Centro Tepeyac (a Crisis Pregnancy Center)
• Seminarians in the Holy Land
• The Diakonia Fund (donations to the poor)
• Holy Transfiguration Church Sunday School & Youth Group
• Holy Transfiguration Church Building Fund
• As Members of the National Association of Melkite Women (NAMW) we lend support to projects of the Bishop.
The Melkite Youth Group is a group of Melkite Catholic young adults, bound together by Christ's love and a desire to grow closer to our God.
The Melkite Guardians is the parish's men's group bound together by Christ’s love and a desire to grow closer to our Lord. It's mission is to preserve and expand the Melkite Faith & Culture, in obedience to our pastor, through:
• Evangelization
Spreading the message of Christ to friends, neighbors and our surrounding community with face-to-face contact.
• Consolation
Supporting those that are ill, grieving or shut-in with regular personal visits.
• Fellowship
Giving thanks for the Lord's many blessings with fellow members of the Body of Christ through social events and celebrations.
• Preservation
Passing on the richness of our faith through through our icon and book store, photographic and documentary history, and instruction of the parish youth through retreats.
The Melkite Guardians are looking for a few good men. Will you join us?
