Adult Education/Bible Study at Holy Transfiguration Melkite Greek-Catholic Church

The adult education program welcomes everyone from both inside and outside the parish. Our intent is not to "hold lectures," but to provide a forum for adult discussion and spiritual growth within the framework of Eastern Christian thought and practice. All sessions explore the harmony between biblical faith and the fruits of that faith that arise in the Holy Traditions of the Church and in our daily lives with Christ.

For Fall 2008, we are pleased to offer the following sessions:

From November 2 - 16 - Sunday's from 9:15 to 10:15

"The Eucharist in Scripture" We will first discuss the titles "Son of Man" and "Suffering Servant" that appear the Old Testament and their relation to the Eucharist. Bridging to the New Testament, we will then look at what the Gospels, the Pauline Epistles, and (time permitting) the Book of Revelation teach us about the Eucharist and its place in the life of the Church.

11/23 to 12/21: "Which Bible Do You Read? - Why It Matters"

There are significant differences in English Bibles, depending on which Greek text of the New Testament they follow. For example: Did the thief on the cross address Jesus as "Lord," as we sing in the Liturgy, or did he call Him "Jesus"? (See Luke 23:42) In these classes we will discuss why such differences exist, why they are very important to understand, and how the wisdom of the Church can help us with this issue.
NO CLASS ON NOVEMBER 30
